What do a standing ovation, inspiring speeches, and great food and fun have in common? They were all part of this year’s Minnesota Bridges to Excellence celebration! While this is the final year of MNBTE as we know it, the recognition reception was abuzz with ideas for taking the pay-for-performance concept to the next level in Minnesota. Since its introduction by The Action Group in 2005, The Minnesota Bridges to Excellence (MNBTE) program advanced both care delivery and outcomes by rewarding clinics for meeting or exceeding a strict set of care standards for patients with diabetes, depression, and vascular disease–conditions known to be primary drivers of health care costs. This purchaser-led pay-for-performance program was tailored for the Minnesota marketplace, and used guidelines developed by the Institute for Clinical System Improvement (ICSI), and measurement development and public reporting by Minnesota Community Measurement.
