It’s impossible to miss that prescription drugs continue to dominate the news. Indeed, there is a nonstop stream of reports of escalating costs; breaking news of mergers between industry players in the complex supply chain; political banter between legislators and candidates on their preferred solutions; and heartbreaking stories of patients unable to afford insulin and other essential medications.
Amid this chaos, there is some good news. The Action Group’s 2019 Annual Employer Benefits Survey revealed that prescription drug costs for Minnesota employers are running at 5%, which is below national benchmarks. To achieve this result, employers are engaging in an array of tactics in a “whack-a-mole” effort to manage costs, including prior authorizations, medication therapy management, step therapy, and limiting supply. Even so, employers are experiencing double-digit increases in specialty drugs and generic drugs. The Action Group’s Specialty Drug Employer Playbook was published to ensure stakeholders are taking action and measuring progress.
At our August member meeting, we’ll hear from Dr. Stephen Schondelmeyer, international expert and trusted advisor to Action Group employers, and a panel of other experts. They’ll share timely and candid insights on recent market developments and legislative activity. What does it all mean? Have we made any meaningful progress? And, where do we go from here?
If you are concerned about the high cost of prescription drugs, if you are currently conducting a PBM RFP, or if you are simply wanting to stay abreast of this rapidly changing landscape, this is a meeting you won’t want to miss.
Bring your questions and challenges to ensure that you get maximum value from this passionate conversation!
